What the Insta360 X5 is

The X5 is a 360-degree camera from Insta360. It records in every direction at once, so you can decide later which angle to show. Insta360 calls it a flagship 8K 360 camera and positions it as its best-value 360 option.

It uses two 1/1.28" sensors and a three-chip processing setup. Insta360 says that makes for better color, clarity and low-light results than before. I can't confirm that firsthand, so treat it as the brand's claim.

It comes in Midnight Black, with a Satin White Limited Edition also listed.

Image quality and low light

For video, the X5 shoots 8K at 30fps in 360 mode. Insta360 says it supersamples from 11K down to 8K for extra detail. There is also 5.7K at 60fps with Active HDR for action shots, and 72MP 360 photos.

PureVideo is the low-light mode. Insta360 says it uses AI noise reduction and dynamic range optimization, and it works in both 360 and single-lens modes. Low-light claims on 360 cameras are worth checking against sample footage from independent reviewers before you buy.

The single-lens mode lets you use it like a regular action camera, with 4K at 60fps.

Replaceable lenses, durability and battery

The headline change is the replaceable lens design. If you scratch or crack a lens, you can pop it out and snap in a new one. Insta360 also claims a 100% improvement in drop resistance over the X4 and a harder optical film. It still advises lens protection when shooting outdoors.

The battery is 2400mAh. Insta360 lists 208 minutes at 5.7K24fps in Endurance Mode, but only 93 minutes at 8K30fps. Those are lab numbers, so real use will vary. Fast charging reaches 80% in 20 minutes with a compatible 30W charger.

The camera is waterproof to 49ft on its own. For underwater 360 footage, Insta360 recommends the Invisible Dive Case, rated to 197ft.

Features and editing

The invisible selfie stick effect is the classic 360 trick: the stick disappears, so footage looks like it came from a drone or a floating camera. FlowState stabilization and 360° Horizon Lock keep video steady and level.

InstaFrame 2.0 gives you flat 4K video straight from the camera. The app adds AI Director, AI Frame and reframing tools. Insta360 notes that AI Frame needs significant processing power and some phones may not support it, so check the compatibility list.

Control options include gesture, voice and twist-to-shoot with a selfie stick. Motorcyclists get Bluetooth headset support, Road Mode and plate blur. A wind guard and four audio modes target windy shoots.

Price and value

The page I read did not show a price, so check Insta360's store for current pricing and bundles. Accessories like the Invisible Dive Case, Mic Air and selfie sticks are sold separately and add up.

Insta360 offers FlexiCare, a paid 1-year accidental damage plan with two replacements. Given that the lenses can now be swapped, it may matter less for some people.

Value depends on how much you will actually edit. 360 footage rewards patience in the app or on a computer.

Who it suits and what else to consider

If you ride, ski, travel or vlog and want the freedom to reframe, the X5 looks like a well-rounded choice. The replaceable lenses and longer battery address common complaints about earlier 360 cameras.

Insta360's own page lists the X6 as a newer flagship, so compare the two before you buy. Check also whether your phone meets the app requirements.

Questions about Insta360 X5

Is the Insta360 X5 waterproof?

Insta360 says it is waterproof to 49ft (15m) on its own. For 360 underwater video, the brand recommends the separate Invisible Dive Case, which goes to 197ft (60m).

How long does the Insta360 X5 battery last?

Insta360 lists up to 208 minutes at 5.7K24fps in Endurance Mode and 93 minutes at 8K30fps, in lab conditions. Real-world time will vary with temperature and settings.

Does the Insta360 X5 have replaceable lenses?

Yes. Insta360 says you can pop out damaged lenses and snap in new ones. The lenses are sold separately, so check the store for replacement options.

Can the Insta360 X5 shoot in low light?

Insta360 says its PureVideo mode uses AI noise reduction to improve low-light footage. It is the brand's claim, so look at independent sample clips before relying on it.

What phone do I need for the Insta360 X5 app?

Insta360 lists iPhones with an A12 chip or newer and many recent Android phones. Older devices may still control the camera, but some AI features may run poorly.

What is the invisible selfie stick effect?

The camera's two lenses stitch the image so the selfie stick is hidden from the final video. It gives a third-person, drone-like look without extra gear.

Decided it fits? The Insta360 X5 looks like one of the more complete 360 cameras on paper, with larger sensors, swappable lenses and better battery life. It suits people who enjoy reframing footage and shoot in rough conditions. Check the current price and compare it with the newer X6 before you decide.
